Today we are featuring Inklings Book Contest 2021 finalist Henley Ferguson! Henley finished 4th grade this past school year. She shared a poem called “Morning Cookies.” Enjoy!

Morning Cookies
by Henley Ferguson

When the gold sun cracks through the trees
Waking up the morning breeze,
In my dreams, the school bell rings.
But, then with relief, I know it is a weekend.

When the gold sun cracks through the trees
Waking up the morning breeze,
I sit up joyful, almost bouncing on the bed.
It is the best of mornings, I know that in my head.

When the gold sun cracks through the trees
Waking up the morning breeze,
Anxiously, I await soft cookies baking in my oven.
Outside beautifully, the small birds sing –
Thanking the garden for all the amazing things.

As I write this poem
Full of nature and delight,
The cookies smell so tasty.
I just have to take a bite.
