Today we are featuring Inklings Book Contest 2019 finalist, Asmitha Pallath! Asmitha finished 5th grade this past school year. The poem she submitted is called “Tata – Never Say Goodbye”

I try to recall the old memories
But they begin to drift away
An empty space in the world
The place you used to be

Snippets of the past
The tree you cut down
The old park
My second home

Gifted with a wife were you
Sunshine or snow
Always together
From the struggling travels in London
To the relaxing life in Hong Kong

Giving back what you received
You kept the flower with you
Its adventurous pollen, a trait we all loved
Its beautiful petals, only a small part of the whole
And its stem, which held its undying love for you
Spreading that love to your loved ones

Climbing trees, childhood friends – a cure from reality
Raising siblings – a difficult journey
A successful engineer – many books you inked
Meeting Prince Charles – something worthy for you

Venuvinod Krishna Patri – not only a long, foreign name
Eternal companion to an endearing spouse
Three children – blessed to access your wisdom
Reminiscent stories, nostalgia
Eight grandchildren, reliving your past

You will never be alone
You are family
