Today we are featuring Inklings Book Contest 2022 finalist Kairavi Chandra. Kairavi finished 9th grade this past school year and wrote a poem called “ANGER.” One judge said that something that stands out about Kairavi’s poem is “the way anger is shown through action, sensation, and word choice. Beautifully written.” Enjoy!
ANGER
By Kairavi Chandra
anger
gives me heady power
tells me to
strut
not walk,
smirk
not smile.
I transform into someoneÂ
else
someone
braver
stronger
crueler
than I ever was.
anger
consumes me
building me up
and tearing me down.
It controls me
offers me confidence
carelessness
and recklessness
anger
courses through
my veins
turns my bloodÂ
into molten gold
it gives meÂ
power
only I
deserve,
armor
only I
can wear.
words becomeÂ
daggers
that I wieldÂ
without
a secondÂ
thought
daggersÂ
that find their mark
every
single
time.
anger
smolders in the pitÂ
of my stomach
waiting for a chance
to flare upÂ
and
burn
