Today we are featuring Inklings Book Contest 2020 finalist, Saylor Narron! Saylor finished 6th grade this past school year. The poem she submitted is called “Waffles.”  Our judges enjoyed how fun Saylor’s poem is, saying, “the rhythm keeps the poem light and airy–just like a good waffle.” Enjoy!

Waffles
by Saylor Narron

Just like a pancake,
circular and soft.
The smell is amazing,
even when store-bought.

The taste is the best,
all sugary and delicious.
The treat is incredible,
everything except nutritious.

The only difference from a pancake,
is the shape and the pockets.
And when you ask my opinion,
I like it better when it’s chocolate.

Whether a treat or a normal,
it does not matter.
Whether heating it up
or baking the batter.

A waffle is delicious,
no matter the size.
As a breakfast item
it wins first prize.
