We are thrilled to introduce you to our newest published author, Kenzie Lam! Kenzie recently published her book, Lost and Found, through our Fresh Ink publishing program. In Fresh Ink, youth authors with a completed draft of a novel are mentored through a chapter-by-chapter revision process. At the end of the program, the author is guided through the publication process resulting in an ink-and-paper book they can hold in their hands and share with other readers! We interviewed Kenzie about her experience in the program. Keep reading to learn more about Kenzie’s book and Fresh Ink.

Interview with Kenzie Lam

Who is your favorite character in your book and why?

My favorite character is Pepper, a cat, because even though she had a hard life, she learns to move forward. I also like her because at the beginning of the story, she couldn’t trust anybody. At the end, she learned to trust people and make friends.

What problems did you run into in your revision and how did you resolve them?

One problem was that I wasn’t really happy with one part of the plot. I resolved it by writing a new chunk of the book and revising it.

What is something that surprised you about revising?

One thing that surprised me was that there was so much to change. I thought my book was almost done, but we ended up changing a lot and I’m satisfied with how it turned out.

What would you tell someone who wrote a novel and is not sure they want to do revisions?

I would tell them that if you feel like your book is finished, there’s always more to add. Even tiny changes can really make a difference.

You can grab your copy of at Lost and Found at Barnes and Noble or by request it at your favorite indie bookstore!

Are you ready to publish your novel?

It’s time to take your novel, and your writerly skillset, to the next level! In the Fresh Ink Program, professional writers mentor youth through a chapter-by-chapter revision process which results in a printed or published book available through independent bookstores and other retailers. Through Fresh Ink, you will: complete a full novel revision, take your writing skills to the next level, and learn what it takes to publish a book
