We are thrilled to introduce you to our newest published author, Noah James Mayne! Noah recently published his book, Somebody’s Gotta Root for the Underdog, through our Fresh Ink publishing program.
In Fresh Ink, youth authors with a completed draft of a novel are mentored through a chapter-by-chapter revision process. At the end of the program, the author is guided through the publication process resulting in an ink-and-paper book they can hold in their hands and share with other readers!
Noah had a fun meet and greet where he shared about his book with other readers. Here are some pictures of his event.

We interviewed Noah about his experience in the program. Keep reading to learn more about Noah’s book and Fresh Ink.
Interview with Noah James Mayne
Tell us about your book!
Somebody’s Gotta Root for the Underdog is a book about surviving 4th grade. James’ story walks readers through a hilarious semester at St. James School, where he learns about navigating friendships, being a good teammate, and why it’s important to root for the underdog.
What inspired you to tell this story?
I was inspired by Jewell Parker Rhodes, my mentor, who writes books to raise awareness or teach a lesson. I wanted to do the same by writing to teaching others about kindness and friendship.
Who is your favorite character in the book and why?Â
The main character, James, is based off of myself. I love writing about this character because it helps me understand myself and it allows others to understand how awkward and hilarious it is to be in 4th grade.
What do you hope readers will take away from your book?Â
I want readers to learn to never give up and to believe in themselves and others, while also laughing hysterically while the characters in the book learn these lessons.
