Interview with Sabrina Grossman
Tell us about your book.
My book, The Prisoner of Cell 47, is about a teenage girl named Alavis Hansen who has magic. She has been locked up in a prison for people with magic for years, but everything changes when people start to be taken away from the prison to an unknown location, beginning with Alavis’ little sister. Alavis’ journey to find her sister becomes even more serious when she makes a horrifying discovery. What inspired you to tell this story?
I love reading fantasy novels, and I really wanted to write a story that made people feel as involved and excited about the world and the characters as my favorite books make me feel.
Who is your favorite character in your book and why?
I have a few favorite characters in my book. One of them is my main character, Alavis, because I love how much she cares about her sister. I also really like my character Zoë because she is only 6 years old but she is incredibly brave (she also has red hair, like me!) What would you tell someone who wrote a novel and is not sure they want to do revisions?
I would definitely recommend doing revisions. I learned a lot from working with my mentor, and I think the revisions helped to improve my book so that it has more emotion and setting in it.
