Interview with Sana Vinoth

Tell us about your book.

Sana + Clara is a fiction series about two girls who get transported to a magical land on the day of their sleepover. They soon realise that the enchanting dimension they are in is controlled by a goddess named Mother Nature. She chooses them as the heirs of nature, and to go on quests to save endangered animals. Their first quest to save pandas, their little sisters get mixed up into the quest, in which they time travel into the past! Now, in the third book, their sisters have grown to become the new heirs of nature, and they take the lead in a mission into the future, where they face challenges, surprises, and plot twists at every turn.

What inspired you to tell this story?

I first heard about endangered animals in second grade. At the time, I thought that I could make a change big enough to turn things around. I sold some of my artwork, and donated my profit to the Oregon Tiger Sanctuary. When I was in third grade, my desire to make a difference only grew stronger. My characters helped me make the change I wanted to make in the world, and so I wrote my first book. I continued stretching my characters adventures in the second book. What inspired me to write my final book is the fact that anyone can stand up and make a impact, and all around the world, people ARE doing this. I wanted to make a small difference in the world, and help it take one baby step towards its goal.

Who is your favorite character in this book and why?

My favorite character in the book is Choco. I modeled her after her sister, but she also has a sassy attitude and is a careful thinker. I loved making conversations between her and the other characters because of how blunt and feisty she is.

What problems did you run into in your revision and how did you resolve them?

When doing revision, I wanted a add a thicker plot and more connections into my story. Working with my instructor, I was able to edit my draft and add more details and twists to my plot.

What do you hope readers will take away from your book?

I hope readers will understand that the world has many problems, but they are the solution, and their actions, and what they do can change to world and make a true difference, word by word.

Sana chose to publish her book directly through Amazon. You can find a copy of Sana + Clara: The Complete Series at this link.
