Introducing the Lantern Circle
A supportive community uplifting the next generation of storytellers
At Society of Young Inklings, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to discover the power of their voice. For seventeen years, youth writers have arrived at our doorstep with sparks of imagination, questions about the world, and stories longing to be shaped. Together, we’ve watched those sparks grow into courage, confidence, connection, and published work.
Today, I’m delighted to share a new way to walk alongside this mission:
What Is the Lantern Circle?
The Lantern Circle is a community of supporters who want to be a little closer to the heartbeat of Society of Young Inklings. It’s not a giving tier, a committee, or a formal membership. Instead, it’s a relational circle. By joining the Lantern Circle, you nurture the mission not just through generosity, but through presence, curiosity, and shared imagination.
Lantern Circle members receive:
-
Three seasonal Illuminations letters each year, each one offering stories, creative sparks, and glimpses of the youth writers whose voices you are helping to lift.
-
Occasional behind-the-scenes invitations — readings, celebrations, or previews of new initiatives.
-
Optional opportunities to support and encourage young writers through sharing, responding, or offering small acts of light along the way.
There are no requirements.
Your presence itself strengthens this work.
Why “Lantern”?
Lanterns are a symbol of guidance, warmth, and shared light – exactly what young storytellers experience when someone believes in them. When youth writers feel seen, heard, and supported, they begin to take creative risks, tell deeper truths, and step into their voices with confidence.
Your light helps illuminate their path.
How to Join
If the Lantern Circle feels like a meaningful next step for you, we would be honored to welcome you.
Your Support Matters
Last year, five out of six young Inklings participated through scholarships or free-of-cost programming such as online classes, mentorships, youth leadership cohorts, and publishing opportunities. Support from the Lantern Circle helps ensure that access remains at the heart of everything we do.
Whether you join the circle, share this post with someone who loves youth creativity, or simply keep cheering us on, thank you for being part of this hope-filled work.
Together, we illuminate the future — one brave young voice at a time.
With deep gratitude,
Naomi Kinsman
