Mapping a Fictional World

Teaching Objective:

Writers will create a birds-eye map of their story’s landscape and learn how world-building decisions can shape the events of a plot.

Materials Needed:

• Plain paper or writer’s notebook
• Pencil
• If desired, How To Create a Fictional World Printable

Overview:

In this mapping exercise, writers will explore the specific details of their fictional worlds. While this video may be used as a stand alone mini-lesson, it was developed as part of our series, Inklings Book Prep Course, in honor of our annual Inklings Book writing contest.
