Today we are featuring Inklings Book Contest 2020 finalist, Kara Horne! Kara finished 5th grade this past school year. The poem she submitted is called “In the Darkest of Times.”  Kara said that what she likes most about her poem is “the idea of finding light and having a friend to lean on.”

In the darkest of times
There will always be
A person
A friend

They will
Look out for you
Wait for you
Stand beside you
Guide you when you are lost

They will
Follow the light
Hold on to courage
And have faith in you

In the darkest of times
They will help you see the glow
They will spark hope in the gloom
Help you see through the fog
Find the light

In the darkest of times
You will have each other
In the darkest of times
They will look to you
They will see brightness
Faith
Hope

In the darkest of times
When all is lost
You will lean on each other

Then when the smoke clears
In the brightest of times
Grab hold of faith

Because in the darkest of times
You need to believe
In following the light
